MMDA & RLC Launch Innovative Mobile Materials Recovery Facility in Muntinlupa

Muntinlupa City – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), in partnership with Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC), successfully launched a pioneering Mobile Materials Recovery Facility (MMRF) on December 6, 2024, in Barangay Sucat, Muntinlupa City. This collaborative effort aims to promote environmental sustainability and lead the shift towards a circular economy by encouraging responsible waste management within the community. Known as “Recyclable Mo, Palit Grocery Ko,” the MMRF operates on an innovative barter system. Residents can exchange recyclable materials such as plastics, bottles, and other non-biodegradable waste for essential grocery items like rice, canned goods, and beverages. This incentivizes proper waste segregation and reduces reliance on single-use plastics.Through this program, the MMDA hopes to empower local communities through changed behaviors and perceptions, turning their waste into valuable resources one exchange at a time.

The MMRF launch in Muntinlupa saw the active participation of 300 attendees, including valued members of the City Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO), demonstrating strong community support for responsible waste management. During the event, a total of 2,272.2 kilograms of recyclables were collected, with 1,623.2 kilograms sold to a junk shop and 649 kilograms transferred for further processing using the Solid Waste Granulator. These efforts highlight the significant impact of community-driven waste recovery and segregation to major close waste stream loops and implement a circular material recovery system (MRS).
